I found a road that was cut in by a dozer, drainage pipe laid, covered by dirt and topped off with coquina. I was just running my dog. Started finding sharks teeth. I`ll have to add pics. later, computer is not cooperating. Question is,,,,is it a freak thing or has anyone ever hunted the coquina mines/quarries? Productive or not? I`m in Surfside/socastee South Carolina. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it isn't a freak thing, I have found them the same way on a trip to St. Augustine last year. Also, in St. Augustine Florida, the castillo de san marcos is a Spanish fort, and it is made almost entirely of coquina. There are several places in the fort where you can see shark teeth sticking out of the walls. I don't think the shark teeth come in large enough numbers for hunting in a quarry.

If you can, you should post pictures; that's a pretty neat way to find shark teeth.
