With all the discussion about cops on here..... Cops are Humans , liable to all of the human frailties. some are kind and understanding, some are tough , some think that they are tough, Some can be bullies and some can be or are dishoest. The first time I dissed a cop was when he ,not knowing me ,called me a ciivilian, with a sneer. Actually you will find people in all walks of life that have all the same attitudes and weaknesses as cops, some because they have a job that requires assertive behavior and some because of ego. I have never had to deal with Mexican police, Mounties and Bobbies are generally polite reserved and fair, most of them. Shore patrol and MP's are prone to the civillian distrust problem. so before you hate or dislike them, think and reflect. Been there ,done that. Bob

Interesting thinking here. I took your advice and thought about it.....Nope, still can't stand them!

LonesomeBob, I agree with you all the way! :icon_thumleft:
Cops are only human, and there are good and bad folks in every occupation! I have been on the receiving end of both extremes, and mostly
(not always, of course!) they respond with the same attitude which they are given.
Definitely not the job for someone trying to win a popularity contest!! LOL!!!
When most folks encounter law enforcement, it is generally not their best day, and a lot of times someone goes to jail (which is one reason we pay them).
When that someone is us , of course we don't feel very warm and fuzzy toward cops.
But a lot of us (not only cops, which I am not) know what it feels like to be spit on/at, shot at, and have to do the "dirty work" that's gotta be done.............

Hopefully folks who feel this way will never have to know what it is like to need help from someone that is willing to die for them.

Having been in federal / state law enforcement, I can thoroughly understand both sides, and why this incident happened. In this case, lack of training and faith in oneself's ability. The average policeman is one lousy combat shot. If you are good, you do not do this. You have perhaps at least 2 -3 seconds to react if he is actually reaching for a pistol, plenty of time. One of them panicked, then the others followed automatically.

Well, I was a cop for 25 years. It takes a certain type of person to be a cop, and you really need to be able to deal with people. You don't have to like em, but you need to be able to deal with them. But since you do have a badge and a gun I suppose you can bully your way through life. In 25 years in a pretty rough part of the country, I believe I filed assault on an officer or resisting arrest less than 15 times. And strangely enough, there's a lot of cops that I have absolutely no use for today. I'm quick to point it out to them, so I'm not real popular with the local PD. (Quite frankly, Frisco CO PD, I have forgotten more about law enforcement than you boys will ever know.)

Right on rotten shots,I shoot expert with either hand, but under pressure ,I have never had to fire on duty, and have not had to "pull it"very often. I think that a lot of patience and consideration will go a long way. You are righr that it takes a certin type to be a cop. To be considered a civillian was a hard thing to take, Night on the road can be scary or funny, and in retrospect it was fun. and Yes I miss it! Bob
