Copper Wire Whatzit ??????

I found this item a few weeks ago at a local school. It was a yard for a home (now gone) that stood throughout the Civil War and was spitting distance from the marker stating the importance of this site during some of the battles.

Can anyone tell me what the heck this is? It does have some details (or pattern) pressed into it. This appears to be copper as well. Thanks.

I don't think it is a drawer pull. It is solid copper and I think it would be to soft for that.
