I found this copper item at an area (not the beach) with over 150 years of recorded history. It was down pretty deep in the turf (9 inches or so). Seems to be a tip of some sort, but, any input would be welcome. It's hollow and tapered on the big end, and has a slotted hole on the small end. The holes don't connect. Initially, I thought maybe the tip of a fishing pole, but, I've never seen one with this design or one made of copper. There's two small grooves around the big end which makes me think it was something more decorative than something industrial. The first two photos are as found and just washed off. The last is after I cleaned it up a bit. Thanks.

Those look like old fishing rod tips. It fits on tip of the rod and fishing line is guided through the angled slot down to the reel..

Thanks Matt, that's kinda what I initially thought, but, I'd just never seen on like that before. I guess I'm not quite as old as I thought I was!:laughing7:

Very cool cudamark! Nice recovery and thanks Matt!

Approximately what diameter of rod would this fit on?

The hole is tapered, but, the inside diameter at the opening is 1/4".
