Copper Whatsit from the 1820's Tavern Site

I definitely need help on this one. This is from the field around the 1820's tavern site where I found all the buttons.

I can't find any writing or maker's marks, but it's definitely copper. Despite being a very odd shape, the edges are all smooth and finished so I think this is a complete piece as opposed to a fragment of a bowl. The only feature is the one hole. Any ideas on what this is?
 

Could also be part of a large bell, but they were normally made of brass.

Part of a stirrup is a distinct possibility; this is the same field I found the iron sidesaddle stirrup. Maybe the hole was to secure a leather fitting of some kind.
