Brass What's It

Dug this at an old home site that has yielded no relic newer than Civil War. No idea what this is. It has writing on one side but I can't make out what it says. There is a pattern on the other side as well. There is also a small piece that broke off... I tried to photograph that as well as I could.

Any ideas?

I wonder if it's a part from an early Dutch Musket?
Whatever it is it's definitely early... I'm thinking 17thc.

I'm thinking part of a valve, like a garden hose or fuel nozzle. There is a Holland that makes pumps and fittings.

I think maybe like the top to an old seltzer water bottle or maybe an old extinguisher.I can't make out if it could have been New Holland, which would bring in a possible tractor or farm machinery part.
