Copper what is it??

Friend of mine found this in a field dating back to colonial times, there was also a nearby farm. You can see a bit of leather on one of the "rivets?" so looks like the base may have been covered in leather?

May be part of a water well pump.

Sounds like a good guess as they used leather for the seal.
