copper things

a buddy and i were finding these everywhere at this one site. some are one piece some are two piece. they had sheep, mabe something to do with that?

correct I think they are slate shingle nails

MAYBE DIDNT FIND ANY PLASTIC PIECES THOUGH. JUST AN OLDER STYLE?

They do look like something along the lines of a Simplex Nail for roofing. Otherwise called a cap nail. Just my opinion.

These were used for holding asbestos shingles. The same ones are on the captains house built in 1887 on the in-laws property, the asbestos shingles are covering the old cedar shingles. probably done in the 1930s or so. Arty

those were used to hold down insulation board and then they were tarred over with hot tar

"Those are copper pins used to fasten down the bottom of asbestos shingles on roofs. The tops of the shingles are nailed with copper roofing nails. The flat part of the pin tucks underneath the sides of the underlying tiles while the pin sticks up through the overlying tile, which has a pre-drilled hole in it for that purpose. The pins are then bent over to hold the bottom of the overlying tile down to prevent wind uplift. These were used primarily on "diamond-shaped" asbestos tiles.
