Copper questions .

from what I understand if there is no sheathing or solder on copper it is #1 and #2 with sheathing or solder
on it.strip plastic and cut off soldered ends to make #1 put soldered ends and unstripped wire for a #2 pile.
it depends on metal yard if there is a difference in wire size or if pipe, but mainly copper is copper.I am new
@ this so take with grain of salt.

Wade wire the size of a pencil and bigger is number one. Smaller number two. On copper tubing cut the brass ends off and coil up. wardon

number 1 copper is free of all solder, tarnish, or sheathing, think stripped new extension cords, bright copper color, number 2 copper has corrosion, tarnish, solder and anything the yard can think up to save itself 10 cents. Size has no bearing on grade.

Wow davest I guess all yards are diffrent. The yard I sell too size defnitly makes a diffrence. Sorry if I gave some wrong info, Wardon

I get alot of wire tails that electricians drop on our job sites. Most are 6-18in. long. The plumbers don't leave much mostly 1/2 in. caps when they do the final hook up. So i guess it doesn.t matter if wire is 12ga or 24 ga it all melts the same.

Have yet to take any copper in to my yard and didn't know how I should sort it for future sale so I called the yard for more information. The only thing I learned that I am certain of is that the cord from appliances is #2.

Before I carry a load in I intend to carry samples,(wire, tubing, tubing w/solder etc.) in to the counter and get an appraisel plus explanation. Will post my findings. Could be a year or two though.

well from my two only experiences there is a .10-.12 cent difference on the phone and when you waste
gas getting there. :BangHead:
