Reminds me of one of those things you put on the front bumper of you car and the wind going through it or around it would make a noise and scare the deer from running in front of your car when you where driving. But to small I think??

Thats where the other engine to the miniature Star Trek Enterprise went!

Could it be a door stop? Threaded part screws into floor. It would have had a rubber bumper.

Only an inch wide, machine threads on the post... and turned copper, which would indicate it had to be somewhat precise... like a machine part of some sort?

I'd never heard of a thing called a "goffer iron" before.
Is this one, perhaps ?

Looks like a thruster pod from a Model Ship. Or a Sonar Pod from a model ship. Or possibly a Bullet Light/Siren from a model Fire Truck. Screw end is likely for insertion into wood.

The threads look to be machine threads rather than screw threads, so I doubt it went into wood.

Drawer pull that looks like a bullet

It's a bit tiny for that, and the drawer face would have to be pretty thin.

My first guess is a Growler siren for a prewar toy Fire Chief or police car. Cool item. Sub 8-)

Mostly based on color and size, my first thought was a knob off a copper pot or tea kettle lid.

If the threaded stud was on the end (like a finial) I would agree. Since it's on the side, I tend to agree more with Subterranean, unless, it's a decoration piece instead of a handle.
