I dug this up last night in the general area of a CW campsite. Really not sure what it is? I also found a flat button within 50 yds of it also. It wil fit just inside a snuff can and it's made of copper. It's probably nothing but I just thought I'd get it confirmed by someone else. Thanks ahead of time for any feedback.

Measurement would help but It looks to have a place for a monogram, so I would say it came from a personal chest of some type. Being copper, it could have been plated. Looks civil war era. Tony

What kind of indications does it have on the back for attaching ? It is definitely not "nothing". Just on what I can see, it looks like a brooch, could be a decorative buckle too. Also, could be as Tony in SC said, a chest decoration. Almost all copper and brass decorative pcs. were gilt with either silver or gold. One way to tell is to look in the hard to get at areas with a good loupe or even a microscope. Nice find !

There doesn't seem to be any kind of "attachment" on the back of it.
