Found this in a park right beside a civil war cemetary about 7" deep. The inscription "INRI: is Latin meaning, Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews. It is 3" long by 2" wide.Does anyone know how old it may be or whether it's copper or brass? I rubbed it with a rag and it seemed to clean up fairly easily. There is a number, 417 on the top piece.

Nice find! If marked 417 it may be 10k gold.

Goldiver is correct on marking...

Although the "look" of this piece leads me to lean more toward not gold.

Testing would confirm.

Thanks for the info. It does not look or feel like gold to me either, more like brass. Buy 417 is the only marking on it. I couldn't find one like it anywhere online. I just recently started metal detecting with my son and im not familiar with the resources for researching things yet.

If only the clasp is marked does that mean that just the clasp is gold?
