I found this in 1982 while metal detecting under a World War II era barracks on Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. The barracks were leveled to make way for newer dorms. Son and I found some silver, old drink bottles and this item. I tossed it in my keeper box and its been there all these years. I think it is a copper nugget with what looks like quartz in it. Finding a copper nugget may be no big deal but finding one on the Mississippi Gulf Coast makes one wonder just how it got there. It weighs 27 grams. Any thoughts?

I'm No expert But judging from the lack of green oxidation that would be present on copper I'm thinking it maybe an alloy of copper such as bronze. If I were to take a guess.. I would say it's a piece of bronze slag. maybe there was bronze work done there.
