I found this near a 1878 house

Its copper and has a design on the edges.

No writing on it.

Part of an old picture frame from a daguerreotype? Would have been gold plated at one time. What size is it?

It could be that or I have seen compact with mirrors that had similar frames. Giving the size might help.
