I dug this piece 8" deep in a farm field where I have found numerous flat buttons, a couple batwing buckles and a few large cents. I think it is copper and has a brazed(?) on little handle. The narrow end is solid and the wide end has a wooden plug jammed into it. The metal portion less the plug measures 3 5/8" long and the "handle" is 2" long. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG

Its got me? Neat looking though. Maybe a customized tompion to plug up the muzzle of a rifle?

A portable colonial entry tool?

Just kidding. If I were to completely guess, I would think it's some kind of cup.

Okay, I'm stupid. Where on the trimmed neck yokes diagram is the handle as shown in the op's post?

If you look on the ends of the image that Mud Hut posted (Post #6), you'll see something similar to the OP pic. The only differences are that in the OP, the handle is up; in #6 the handle is down. Also, #6 appears to have a spherical end design the OP pic doesn't.

I tried to find a better pic, but not gonna spend all night. It's after 2am here! :sleepy2:

In Mud Huts pic it shows and describes "acorn" tips on the end of the piece. I am assuming you could order those fancier tips. Mine just has a plain end. Also, I wasn't sure what was right side up when I posted my pics, looking at Mud Hut's pic the "handle" part goes down. Looks like leather straps went through them somehow.

I found this on E-bay. s-l64[1].jpg Looks pretty close to mine.

Thanks all for your help and input.

Either nobody got that joke or I'm just not funny....don't worry the wife tells me the same thing.

Hey I thought your joke was funny.
Actually that thought went through my head too.
BTW, all wife's tell husbands there not funny. My son tells poor jokes. I ask him to run the joke past
his wife and if she laughs then tell me the joke. She's kind of a joke filter for me.

Ha love it! I'm not the only one! My daughter also tends to pile it on and side with the wife. They just don't appreciate it :)
