Copper Eagle 1800's?

Dug at a farm house yesterday @ 5". It's @ 4" tall and the petals used to form a base @ the size of a softball. The cone is hollow. House dates to 1802. Flag pole,staff finial?

It's a plume holder from a c. 1870's-80's U.S. Army helmet. I believe it's from the Model 1872 or so-called "Custer" helmet, as shown below:
