Got out to my first field(cornfield) this Fall. This has been on my "bucket list", for years! My hunting buddy found an identical one on this field last fall.This field had Native American villages on it in pre-historic times. They hammered these awls out of "float" copper that was pushed down here by the glaciers.They used them to pierce leather, etc. for clothing.
Hard to tell in the picture, but it is "diamond" shaped in cross section & quite sharp.
Sorry the picture is so big when you enlarge it.........been having a hell of a time posting pictures since I got this new computer!

Awesome find. Don't see these around here.
 

Tools don't change much, I've had Roman versions, most have a thick end & a thin end. Nice find.
