Hi all--

I found (detected) a VERY thin (wafer-thin) copper coin the other day in the sand of a river-side beach. The only markings I can see (with the aid of strong specs and a mag. glass) are a big 5 surrounded by dots/stars. I can't make anything out on the other side. I don't know where to search for pics of various coins and am not familiar with old coins-- just learning. Thought someone might know either what it is or where I could find a good source of pics. I know a date would help, but I can't see squat... Thanks for any help. Sand and brackish water certainly are rough on coppers- Woo!

Thanks John-- you got it ;) Yup, very stained- and worn down (I guess I'd be a bit worn down after being tossed around in the sand for 150 years too ;D). But that's it. What's it made of? ... nickel? My detector is cheap- and like many, doesn't do very well around briney water-- and gets mixed signals w/ all the iron around. Thanks so much!

Here is a site for your nickel.
