Re: copper coin ID needed and cleaning suggestions.

:read2:

Looks to have some detail hiding there :P I have never used peroxide on copper coins, so I couldn't comment on that method, I would use some tissue soaked in olive oil, and remove the access oil, which should reveal a bit more detail :)
It works for me :icon_thumleft:

Re: copper coin ID needed and cleaning suggestions.

Heres what I see in the 2nd pic. Also, it almost looks like there is a mirror image of the "harp" on the other side of a "pole"

Re: copper coin ID needed and cleaning suggestions.

ok talk me down, but I'm seeing 1773 "Penny" or Virginia Halfpennies

anyone else see this or am I crazy.

the harp is actually smaller inside the crest. Look at where I traced the crest and then look at the original pic in the first post.

EDIT: I can see the deer inside the lower right portion of the crest now.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just one question, are the sizes in the redbook correct? If they are I think this is a 1773 "Penny" variety. It is a quite smaller than the half penny and fits perfectly on the penny picture.

Ok so after doing some more searching I agree this is a Halfpenny and not the penny. I thought the pics in the redbook were actual size but I guess thats not true.

My coin is a bit less than 25mm and the pennys were larger than the half penny at around 27mm.

also, the one I found is lacking a milled border.

Thanks for all the help WII guys.

It's NEVER the penny. ;D But I can't blame you for making sure.
