I found this coin today in a place where a Few guys have found several Large cents including my first large cent, but it doesn't seem to match any of the large cents I see in the book. Could this be a colonial or a King George copper? I realize there is not alot of detail, but I can see what looks like a male figure facing left and what looks like the Roman Numeral II at about the 1 o'clock position and the letter S at about the 11 o'clock position. The weight is 7.7 grams if that helps. The back is coroded and I can't see any detail on the back. I scanned both sides.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Ken

1773 Virginia Halfpenny maybe? See the photo for comparison.

Ken, most likely a King George II copper as you have thought. The weight converted to grains is in the range and on British coppers the range is great. :)

Is it about the size of an American quarter?

Last year, I found 2 unidentifiable coppers within five feet of each other; they are both about the size of a quarter.
