I am wondering if anyone has any information on this find. I must admit that it was an estate sale find and not one of my own but I am still curious about the identification. Looks somewhat like an ancient spearhead. It is about 12 3/4" long. The color makes me think it is copper but I'm not positive. I have many questions:

Is it possible from the pictures to tell if it is a replica? The discoloration at the end looks like from a piece of tape or tag that would have been used at a store. This is why I thought this was possible. On the other hand the oxidation, actually in the pitting of the metal in the other picture, pulls me the other way.

What time period and area would such an item be from? Even if it is a fake I would like to know what it is attempting to replicate. The historical information is interesting to me. Since I did not "pull it out of the dirt" myself, does someone know the best way to research this information?

I know this is not part of the identification but I would like to mount it in my office with the historical information under it. If it truly is "ancient" is there anything special I need to do protect it. I don't want to ruin something that is part of history even if it does not have much value.

Thank you all for your time. 20120808_165916.webp20120808_165732.webp20120808_165952.webp20120808_165812 (1024x768).webp

Looks like it might be a fence post final. Possibly for a flag pole.
