Copper beanbag ashtray?

Lol! What would you call this. It looked old so I bought it but I may have wasted a dollar. I don't know, I want to stick it up on eBay.... copper beanbag ashtray sound good?

Certainly looks like an ashtray, but what purpose would the beanbag part serve aside from making it a less-stable ashtray? Think it's full of charcoal to absorb odors?

I remember those when I was a kid in the 70s.

I think it was so you could put it on the arm of your chair and not have it fall off. The chairs arms were rounded. That's what my dad did with his.
