Hi all,
I managed to find a field to hunt that was not covered with a crop growing on it. I had just started and I found this lion head mount. It is heavy and what looks like a red fired clay used to secure it to what ever it was mounted on. It has a diameter of all most three cm. I is defiantly cast bronze. The field is close to a site where I have found over thirty 4th century roman coins and found Celtic coins and artifacts as well. Looks to me that it is Roman made. Any ideas anyone?

I've had smaller versions of these, & brought & sold one your size. As stated they are Roman box/furniture Mounts, some debate on what type of box they came off, I think that as we record them in a homestead setting & not a burial area, that they are domestic.

Thanks CRUSADER, that's what I was thinking. All info from everyone is very useful.
