Any one seen anything like this.

found on 401 near the neuse river in NC.

Metal detector recognized as a copper based button but under a 10x microscope there`s signs of brass or gold????

Thought about cleaning with toothpaste till i saw the brass/ gold color, now i`m afraid ill pull the plating off of it.

I`ll try posting in the civil war forum if no one knows what it is.

Nice old button, definitely has some age to it. Could very well be gilded. Let us know what you find out about it!

rick.

Nice find! Here's a link to a civil war button ID website. http://www.civilwarbuttons.com/cwcol.htm If I'm seeing that right though, it looks like theres a crown on it, which I don't think the US (or CS) used. Maybe British Royal Navy? Any markings on the back?

Rick i hope this link works.

I will post tonight since i spelled copper wrong and accidentally posted on revelutionary war rather than Civil war, darn lazy fingers.

Thanks for everyone`s work on posts of this site, I love It.

My Brains going to explode with the knowledge :P
