I told this story on the web before about seven years ago and its true and just weird.
A coworker had placed three metal (rebar) markers in a field and our boss had told him to get GPS readings on them ASAP so that he would know their location. Well, he put it off and he put it off too long. A farmer plowed the field and the markers were covered with soil and plant residue. Our boss was very overbearing and my coworker was a nervous wreck about it. He thought that getting chewed out would be the minimum that would happen. He was worried about geting fired. He knew I had a personal metal detector and asked me if I would help him find the markers. I said I would try. We went out to the field and it was huge. He could not remember where he placed the markers, but we started out in an area where he thought they might be. I searched for a long long time with no luck. He was walking around looking for them visually. After a long time of searching I was ready to give up. I stopped and he came over and we talked for a while and he agreed that it was time to go home. He was just sick about it. As I prepared to start walking, I lost my balance and as I did my metal detector flailed about wildly and there was a loud tone. It was one of the metal markers under the dirt right near where I was standing. Now here is the weird part. When I lost my balance, it felt like I was being pushed by someone!!! But it wasn't the coworker and there was no one else around. We were in an open field. After we found the first one it was easy to find the other two because they were a measured distance from the first one. Boy was the coworker happy! We proceeded from there to a local pub and had a couple of celebritory adult beverages.
