Has anyone ever seen a jar like this? Any idea what it's from and how old it may be?
The glass has a slight brownish tint in it, there are no markings on the bottom or anywhere else. It's about 4" tall, the lid diameter is about 1 7/8", the bottom is half flat and half angles upward. There is an imprint of a man with a bowtie and 3 buttoned jacket on it. I found this at a bottle dump in the woods today. There were old beer cans around it that had no pull tops and were opened with a can opener, I couls barely make out the words on the beer cans. Thanks for the help! :icon_pirat:

It looks like one of thos cookie/candy jars that my mother used to have on her counter. It would stand either upright to fill, or tipped forward, with a top on it for easy access grabbing a goody out with your hand.

But, I, too think the bottle section would be a good place to put that picture up.

I thought it was a cookie/peanut jar that tilts forward but the diameter of the opening is less than 2 inches so I am guessing peanut butter.

Is there any embossing on the bottom? There is a similar one on e-bay that's under mustard jars.

Wolverine.

No markings anywhere

I see it. Lucky Joe Louis jar. With nothing in the picture for size comparison, some of us didnt realize it was so small. At 4 inches tall, its not cookie and mustard sounds about right. It may have been a bank jar after the mustard was gone..

It doesn't look like the one you posted. I put the measurments in the post.

Too small for that, the jar is shaped like a snow man, bigger on the bottom.

Looks like a peanut.

Could be from peanuts, maybe that's why it tilts forward....so it's easy to get the nuts out?
Your pics are great but I cant tell the size. I think the man resembles a peanut but I think the opening is too small for a hand. Can you get your hand inside?

Maybe for peanuts you only need to get a few fingers in. :dontknow:

You are correct no match. But I think the jar was meant to be saved for later use such as a bank. I hope you get it solved. I would guess that its post 1920. The glass is very clear.

Even though you put the measurements, its sometimes hard to visualize. I make this mistake a lot. I dont think its large enough to get a hand inside. I am guessing mustard/peanut butter/condiment jar.
