I decided I really need to stay away from the pounded field for a while so I went to another field that's been pretty good to me in the past. I had less than 90 minutes because I had to be somewhere but I was able to walk away with a couple of keepers.
After the usual trash I got one of those bouncy hits that seemed to settle in the mid 60's range. The bounce piqued my curiosity so I dug it and out popped ring # 64..........
This one looks like real 10K and I immediately assumed that it was until I knocked some dirt off and read the marks. It's actually Sterling plated in 10K which explains the bouncy signal. It's missing it's stone which I searched for in vain. Oh well. I doubt it was a nice diamond.
I'm calling this one a "hybrid". It's not a junker but it's not solid gold. It's actually more silver than anything so I still consider it a good find and I'm happy with it. It definitely had me fooled though. That plating looks WAY better on silver than it does over copper and/or other metals. Dunno' how long it was buried but it's not flaking off anywhere.
So then I dug some more trash and just before dark I got another VERY faint hit settling in the mid 50's. When I say faint I mean barely audible. I had been hunting in disc mode so I switched over to AM. It was a bit louder yet still very faint. I dug down at least 7-8 inches and out popped another small old flat button......
This button was also on it's side and the Omega caught it; just barely. It was truly a deep whisper signal that I could have easily missed. I was very impressed how it locked onto such a small target at such a depth. It definitely LOVES circular targets.
I learned a great deal about this machine tonight and I'm even more confident in it's abilities. No hunt is ever wasted. Even if the treasures are light there's always the knowledge and skills you gain that you can use in the future.
Overall, I think it was a good short hunt.
Thanks for looking and HH......
