It looks like the center section protrudes? Could it be part of a coin bank? :dontknow:

The State Savings Bank was located at 125 South Main. Became National Bank & Trust of Ann Arbor, which was acquired by National Bank of Detroit (NBD), which merged with First National Bank of Chicago, becoming NBD First Chicago, which was acquired by Bank One, which was acquired by JP Morgan Chase.

Knowing when it became the NBD would, of course, give you the most recent date for your find.

Here's a pic of the State Savings Bank back in the day.

That is an interesting find, quite a little puzzle trying to figure out what it is. Does soaking it in water or vinigar or something help to bring out the lettering? PP
