While I haven't been at this detecting game very long, I have found some nice stuff including civil war buttons, 1800s padlocks, skeleton keys, ect. Anyway, today, I went to a spot that I have found stuff that I can date from 1860-1915, or thereabouts and found a knife made from a horseshoe or rather a pony shoe. I don't really know how old it is, but It's still neat to find it in the woods. I put it in an electrolysis bath and it came out pretty good. I like it!

Interesting, I wonder if they waited for it to break in the middle like these often do, & then decided to re-use the 2 halves?

That is a really cool find, congrats on the find and the restoration.

Waste not want not was an old saying that may apply here. Long ago very few things were thrown away unless there was no way to use them again. It is quite possible this was repurposed from a broken shoe. No way to know for sure, but one thing is certain it is a cool and unusual find. Stay safe and keep swingin.

Very cool find

Now that's a neat find. Talk about repurposing a broken horse shoe !
