I was fortunate to get out for a day to do some hunting.... The rest of my finds were common, but this button sure made me happy! I have two goals for the year... A confederate button and a plate. When this came out I thought maybe I finally got the confederate button... As you can see it was not to be, but this is a cool button!

Thanks for looking!

Neat button! I'm on the same goal too! I finally got my first confederate button of the year last week a NC state, but I have yet too dig any-more in the area I found it after spending about 15 or so hours hunting it all in one day, only got 1 state and 1 broken back of a button and a few knapsack stuff. I have hit many more confederate sites without success of any buttons or plates and it is getting pretty hard too find good stuff lately on the confederate side of things! Of course I can go to spots and dig eagles and ny militia buttons and 3 ringers but yet only finding nails and iron and grandpas beer pull tabs in confederate sites.

Well, I think this is the first one I have seen posted, so that must mean something.

I'm not sure I've ever seen this button before. Do you have any information about it? This may be better than your run of the mill confederate button. Nice find.

This button is listed in Tice's book as a NY271As1, and in Albert's as a NY89. The Ulster Guard was a NY militia unit primarily from Ulster and Sullivan Counties.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!
