Found this brooch last Thursday before Easter at a cabin built in 1818. The brooch was located in the front yard and was about 5 inches deep.
It measures about 1 5/8" top to bottom and 1 3/8" side to side.
It is about 1/4" thick, although it is actually not solid but hollow.
The stone appears to be glass (it is broken ) with some sort of shiney silver paint on the back, I guess to give it a better shimmering quality.
It might be brass? Very ornate, though the pictures don't really do any justice.
Pretty cool, nonetheless.
I apologize for the quality of the pictures... best I could do for now.
Any help in dating let me know!
