Jun. 9--Lucy Schrimsher went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store last week looking for a bargain.

The Decatur resident, instead, found an angel bearing a long-lost gift.

Schrimsher said she lost an emerald ring at a yard sale almost two years ago when it fell off of her finger. She retraced her steps but never found it.

On Friday, while shopping at the Decatur thrift store, Schrimsher started talking to other customers about the great deals available at the store, she said.

"I had bought a watch once for a couple dollars, and it ended up being worth $1,500," she said.

Yvonia Alexander overheard Schrimsher talking about the watch and shared the story of how she once bought a ring from a customer at her own yard sale for far less than its value.

"This little old lady at my yard sale wanted to buy some cookbooks," Alexander said. "When she reached in her pocket to get some change, she pulled out a beautiful emerald ring."

Alexander said she bought the ring from the woman for $4 because she thought it was just costume jewelry. Later, when she had it appraised, she learned it was worth $300 to $400.

Schrimsher said she told Alexander she had lost an emerald ring at a yard sale more than a year ago, and then described her lost ring.

"As I was describing my emerald ring to her, she started looking through her purse and she told me to wait where I was, and she went home and got the ring and brought it to me," she said.

Alexander said intuition told her to keep the ring.

"I just had a feeling I shouldn't sell it, and when Lucy came in and mentioned she had lost her ring, I just knew there was a reason I had held on to it," Alexander said.

Schrimsher said she could not believe her good fortune and was grateful for such a caring person. She showed her appreciation Tuesday by giving Alexander a silver keychain.

"You just don't find honest people anymore," she said. "It was a miracle that I met her.

"I always knew you could find anything at the Salvation Army," she said, "but now I know you can find angels, too."

I like this story! A happy ending is always comforting especially when something was so precious to you once was found. What amazing luck too.
