Contstant Tone Trouble

I was gifted an old Bounty Hunter tr550-d. It looks brand new. However, with three brand new duracells I just get an unwaivering constant tone. Loud and clear. Nothing changes the pitch not adjusting the discrimination or tuning knobs nor a piece of metal. Any ideas?

What you hear is probably just the Threshold. Take it outside away from any metal and see if it still sounds off loud. These low cost "detectors" aren't made with the same components the others from the major manufactures. You could also check if the batteries are installed correctly, this will cause this too. If all else fails, you will have to send it in.
