Then I got a 12-46 signal and out pops out a silver dime Rosie I tried put it my pouch but owner saw it and pick and kept it . I was able to take photos , but the owner Kept all the finds . I never execpted that . 20170423_114305.jpg20170423_111852.jpg20170423_103229.jpg20170423_103309.jpg20170423_111846.jpg20170423_114317.jpg

Thats happened to me before ..a bit greedy of the owner..Were you able to keep anything?

That's why our permission ground rules spell out the agreement 'before' you dig. (Legally in Britain everything is the owners until a binding contract is agreed)

What a buzzkill ! Sometimes people really do suck !! This is why I have come to love hunting intact forest floors near towns , with nobody around !

PS. If that were the UK, sounds like he was just exercising his rights.

This was a first for me , all other permissions the owner didn't care , but i do tell them if i find a family hier loom I'll let them know

But have you learnt anything about how to stop it in future? (& still be honest)

It's taken us years & a few mistakes to get to keep all that we want whilst showing the owners everything.

PS. We educate (including value of finds) all the owners about caring, if they still want us to keep it all we do, but otherwise they get a small share. Leads to more leads, leads to more finds.

I've now learnt that people only suck if you allow them to. If you have a clear & transparent agreement, there are no surprises. If you ask the right questions & had an honest conversation then you wouldn't waste your time agreeing to detecting for nothing. Who would agree to give all their finds to the owner for free? We only do this on Archie digs. Get it?

Ill stick to farm fields and public property thank you

I think I would have offered to split them with him and if he refused I think I would have took my MD, thanked him and left.

Exactly.

We have learnt the hard-way. Even when we check with the farmer that he is the land-owner so we can start the negotiation, some of them lie. They were actually just the tenant. Hard to learn from that because we don't yet pay for land checks. Mostly we take their word until we find out otherwise, it's a twisted world we live in & greed is just one things to over-come.

If it were me, the first coin he kept, would have been the last....
And everything after that, still in the dirt for him to find.

That is one approach.

Somewhere in the middle is the answer or like us 20%/80% over-all.

50/50 has worked well with first item pick by owner.
