I got this email, thought I would pass it along for you Texas folks, wasn't sure exactly where to post it but this seemed like a good spot.

The following email was just received from Keith Wills. It seems very sad what he has to say. I hope you can do what I did, and email you state rep.

If you don't know who that rep is: go here and do a small search. http://www.house.state.tx.us/resources/faq.htm#who_rep

Once you find your rep, write down his office phone number. E-mail the rep, and then call. You will prolly have to leave a number for them to call you back.
Bottom line, tell them to support the bill. HB 1016.

Some reps may not know anything about this bill.

It will allow State Parks to be OPENED up for metal detecting. The texas historical commission is OPPOSED to this bill.

email from Keith Wills:

I recieved a email yesterday that they are scheduling a hearing before the House Committee today, so by next week I'll know which day I have to be before the committee to testify, so hurry your buddies to write or call their reps.
I'm so disappointed, because I have asked several clubs and even my own club as to how many have taken the time to write their represenative and the members of the House Committee I sent out to all and ask them to vote in favor of our Bill 1016. Only 6 or 7 out of nearly 40 folks has done anything at all in each club. It seems no one really wants in our state parks anymore where there is many many years of built up coins and jewelry lost on the swimming beaches, swimming water areas and camping areas. I'm so very disappointed in our metal detecting group to the point I just wonder why I'm going to all this trouble. This is not to mention I have been making copies of our many good deeds by many club members in Texas with good letters from law enforcement, the Lions Camp kids, finding lost rings for our community folks and many more good deeds we all have done. Putting all this together into a nice presentable Texas Portfolio to give to the House Committee members and our sponsors of the Bill that thus far has cost me over $800.00 out of my pocket and my pocket alone and many many man hours of work, plus consider I'll make at least four trips to Austin to see this Bill thru and each trip just for gasoline will cost me at least $100.00 per trip, not to mention me being off work to do all this; and I can get folks to write a few letters to the Committee members and their own reps.. Those in our group just don't realize that if we loose this one, then the Texas Historical Commission will finish what they started by closing our county and city parks to our hobby in this state. Everything of the future for our hobby in Texas henges on us winning on this Bill in this session of legislature, but few can see past their noses on this.
If we loose this one, then you won't see me trying again ever for any future help to our group of folks, which are good to complain about parks closing, but very short on doing anything to support keeping them open or trying to support those who are working for them!!
A very special thank you for all your efforts Ed, wish there were many more like you.
Thank you much, Keith Wills

I believe that just calling will do the trick. Can you imagine the places that will automatically open up if this bill passes? Can you imagine the finds that are actually buried?

Hope you all succeed. and GOD SPEED.
