Considering the Bounty Hunter Platinum Pro... Thoughts?

I also wanted to get the Platinum Pro, but it was not offered in the rewards catalog where I work. I ended up getting the Land Ranger Pro with the DD coil. I am very happy with this detector. My only concern was that the Platinum may run hot like the Teknetics Gamma and Omega which would cause EMI issues in many of the areas I hunt. My main detector is the F75LTDSE, but I used the LRP in my last 3 hunts and was impressed with all it's features. They sell for as little as $229.21 with the DD coil and the Platinum costs $299 and comes with an 8" concentric coil.

Thanks for the reply. I am not to worried about the machine running hot most of the areas I will be in are not to mineralized. There is a "Pro" version which I am looking at that has the 11 inch DD coil. I am considering this one since I have four other Bounty Hunter coils and they will work on this machine. I will take another look at the Land Ranger Pro.

I may be wrong, but just because they are all bounty hunters does not mean the coils are compatible, I believe the frequency of the detector dictates your coil choices. The Platinum Pro runs the same freq as the Teknetics greek series 7.81 khz and your Pioneer 505 runs at 6.8 khz.

Loco Digger is correct. The entire BH "Pro" line uses the lower/mid range` Teknetics/Fisher processor. And earlier BH (6.6khz) will not work properly, although they do plug in. Dave J (FTP lead engineer) just made this clear on another forum.

If mineralized soil is NOT a problem, the Platinum will give the same good perforance of the Tek Gamma/Tek Omega. The only difference between the Platinum and the Gamma is the FE meter and the ability to manually ground balance. The Platinum is better suited for relics than the LRP. If you desire coins, jewelry, the LRP is the better choice, IMO. If you ever plan to use your detector at the Gulf beach, the LRP can balance manually to the salt shore, the Platinum won't in Ground Grab.

The 505 is the top of the line in the old "muffler on a stick" 6.6khz Bounty Hunter line.

I had not thought about the coils and frequency differences. I would like to try hunting the beaches if I every get back to the coast. I do hunt in some granite sand areas that have a lot of black sand in it. I will look into the Land Ranger Pro. Thanks for the input!!!

Well I ordered a Land Ranger Pro it should get here Friday. I will probably do some tests with the coils I have just to see how they work on it. Really I am hoping that the 4 inch coil will work on it since I sometimes like to search through real rocky areas. But I guess the adventure will start next week end. Thanks for all the in put!!!

I've only heard what others said about the 4" coil on the LRP. The comments floated around only getting 3" and wrong ID readings. Let us know if there's any truth to the comments.

I like the 11" DD for my style of hunting over the 10" C that I use periodically. The Tek Digitek is a QDP with a 7" C coil. I'd like to have the 7" coil but can't find them for sale.
