Ok, so my father in law swore long ago that he unearthed a Spanish conquistador dagger while plowing a small family garden on his ranch near Mt. Diablo in California. The story as it has been passed down is that this dagger was reportedly found with a helmet which he sold for liqueur money. I am now in possession of this dagger and would like to have an expert look at it to verify if it is real or not. It was found in the tri-vallley area of Northern California in an area where the Spanish were active during the mission building period. Can anyone recommend someone in the area who could possibly verify the authenticity of this item? I can post pictures tomorrow. Thanks!

So. what do you guys/gals think? Longshot I know. Could be something bought for $4.00 in Tijuana and had a drunken tale spun around it.

Re: conquisatador dagger?

Here's a good place to start for things that have a chance, but that's some pretty high expectations. John Powell would know.... but you can post them here first to get opinions on whether it's worth writing him.

My veiw is it ceremonial. The hilt is to sparce to do defence work. Its cool looking, is there any stamping on the blade?

Re: conquistador dagger? Updated w/ pix

I would bet that it is 20th century. The hilt is cast.

No stamping on the blade or anywhere on the hilt I can see.
