Congressmen Demand James Clapper Prosecuted For Lying to Congress
Lying to congress is a felony. When people lie to congress, especially*those in the administrative branch, the checks and balances that exist to protect us are destroyed. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s been happening.
That might be changing. Multiple congressmen are finally demanding that intelligence director James Clapper be prosecuted for*lying to congress about domestic spying.
This is huge. Remember, lying to congress is a felony, and yet James Clapper, Eric Holder, and Hillary Clinton have been getting away with it… until now.
The Hill*reports:
Rep. James Sensenbrenner Jr., the original author of the Patriot Act, says Director of National Intelligence James Clapper should be prosecuted for lying to Congress.
“Lying to Congress is a federal offense, and Clapper ought to be fired and prosecuted for it,” the Wisconsin Republican said in an interview with The Hill.
He said the Justice Department should prosecute Clapper for giving false testimony during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing in March.
During that hearing, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) asked Clapper whether the National Security Agency (NSA) collects data on millions of Americans. Clapper insisted that the NSA does not — or at least does “not wittingly” — collect information on Americans in bulk.
After documents leaked by Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA collects records on virtually all U.S. phone calls, Clapper apologized for the misleading comment.
The libertarian publication Reason*comments:
Misleading comment? Really?
Sensenbrenner also called for firing National Security Agency director Keith Alexander who oversaw the unconstitutional mass surveillance of Americans’ electronic communications. It’s way past time that both Clapper and Alexander were gone.
The congressman has also introduced the USA FREEDOM Act with the goal of reining in the constitutional abuses of the national security establishment. I await his call for pardoning whistleblower Edward Snowden.
Please note that Sensenbrenner Jr. is actually*the original author of the USA PATRIOT Act. This is a sign that people are slowly waking up to the fact that the federal government shouldn’t be trusted when it comes to our liberty. If anything, the government deserves less trust than any other institution.
Here’s the video of Clapper when he made what is now known as an obvious lie:
'Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?' - YouTube
