Sure, go to the county courthouse where they have the land records and research the deed. It will give you the owners of the property. The pull the US census for the family for between 1860 and 1900 and get the names of everyone who lived there and their ages. It is easy but takes some time. You may have to get a trial subscription to one of those genealogy websites for the census part.

Yes, do what Smokey suggested. County courthouse or building will have tax records and deeds from years past. You should be able to narrow it down and even pinpoint the name of the person who would have served in the Civil War. There is also the possibility that someone gave the homeowner the buckle as a gift or on trade for something, or that a neighbor / relative lost it in their yard. In this case, you would never know the real owner of the buckle. Hate to be a downer, but those are also real possibilities. In any case, that is a great buckle find.

Well the land I found it on was part of Lowndes county during that time and then I think in the late 1800’s they formed a new county being (Clay) county now .. So would I look in the clay or lowndes county for this info???? I’ve learned a lot about the area but can’t get an exact ownership during the civil war .. but I’ve only done research on the internet..

Amazing buckle.

Lowndes, wherever those records now reside.
