Is that rust or dirt in the end? I'm not sure what that is but I did find a bayonet scabbard tip years ago that was mostly plain brass but had an iron finial.

A ribbed what??????????
It looks like scabbard tip but never seen a ribbed one. But 'cause I haven't seen one doesn't mean nothing.

It appears to be iron.

Like sonofmich said I've never seen a ribbed one but that doesn't mean it isn't a scabbard tip I don't have the one I dug any more but I dug it in a spot that was both US and CS. It was shorter that a regular scabbard tip but was triangular shaped at the top, round at the bottom with the rounded iron sticking out about 1/4 inch

This one looks like it may have been triangular at the small end at one time maybe. The other end has a small hole like my other scabbard tips do. And it matches in size for the most part.

Yeah What the heck it's a rare unlisted CS scabbard tip from the 13th Mozambique volunteers. List it on ebay it will bring a fortune :laughing7: Sorry I couldn't resist. Seriously though if it was triangular shaped at the top I don't know what else it would be. I hope someone can give it a positive ID.

It looks like a metal threaded end to a break down shotgun cleaning rod usually had thre wood dowl pieces and the ends were metal, usually brass to screw them together. I think i have one out in the shed still.

Ok there Cruz,,,
Instead of shoveling snow i headed to the shed and retieved the cleaning rod, hickory, brass ends, this one is turn of the century, to about 1930. I think the piece you have is older.

Screwed together.

Thanks for letting me butt in. Arid

it will be easy to tell, as it will have a start & finish point.

Looks that way to me too. It looks like straight lines on the dug piece

In pic 2 it looks like a start and stop point. I'm sure DirtyMike will check and advise

3rd pic looks like wood still in piece.

I say Great ID Arid :headbang:
I agree with IronSpike, Pic 2 in the original post does show both ends of the screw thread :icon_thumleft:
