Hey folks, I wanted to share my finds from today. I am currently hunting the site of an old earthworks encampment on the coast of North Carolina on private property. There are few signals, and the ones you get are almost always DEEP and OLD. Today I was able to get a high 88 signal on my At Pro, and about 9 inches down, I found a 1943 St. Louis stamped .50 caliber machinegun bullet casing. My second good dig was the small lock that probably is from the 1830s. My next tone was a high 60s vdi and 6 inches down was a nice fired three ringer. Last but not least was a weak, 55 vdi signal that turned out to be a shallow Eagle cuff button! That was definitely my favorite find of the day. The backmark dates to 1865 and later, which is accurate because this fort was taken by Yanks in 1865. I love it when written history is confirmed by what I dig up.
Gonna do some more digging tomorrow, if the finds are significant, you will see another post!
****UPDATE**** I returned to the site this morning and got my FIRST 1700s Merchant Shipwreck hand forged brass spike! I also got a fired roundball and a fired enfield bullet. I ran across a big snake, not sure what kind and I found a deer antler!
