I am on a roll. 45 years without a confederate button and now two in less than a month. This one isn't the prettiest and it is missing the back but I'll take it. It's a Georgia State seal staff officers button with a fair amount of gilt left on it. And, I found my first Tombac button here in south Georgia.
One of the guys hunting with me found an 1840 William Henry Harrison coat size presidential campaign button. He will probably post it in his own thread.
We have a very short time left to hunt this site as it will be planted very soon but I am thankful for what I have already found and can't wait to get out there again.

That's a Georgia button, great job. Try the Andres' pencils on them. They are now my go to choice for cleaning relics. You sound like me, I found my first two Confederate buttons on the same day back somewhere around 1991 in Virginia. A Virginia coat and Nansemond Military Institute button, a Virginia school. I still have both. The next Confederate I found was (if memory serves) last year. Two in one day - again!

Nice job on the Civil War button and the rest of your finds.

That button is really cool, even without being complete! The rest of your finds look really interesting as well.
I've got to ask, do save your pottery pieces? I decided to start filling a jar late last year with all of them in it, and i think i get almost as excited to find the pottery now as the metal objects i am hunting. Just curious if i am the only one....

I just picked these pieces up to show to the other guys hunting with me. This is a huge field and so far we have found at least 5 home sites on it. The pottery or ceramics we find help us date the site. We concentrate on the older sites first. Then, if time permits we go to the newer ones. We only have a few months between the end of the hunting season and spring planting to detect.

They are starting to plant now, bummer.

Nicely done! Congrats and HH

It's a keeper!! Congratulations on another confederate button. You know, it's about to be getting to be my turn to pull one from that site. :icon_thumright:

I'll pass on the next one and let you find it, OK?

Sweet find, congratulations! :occasion14:

Sorry i'm late to congratulate .
Lot's going on lately , a GA. Button is top's on of my 'G.I.S.' list, & yours is a very nice example .

I'd be super glad to find just a face even .

A rare find for 2018.
Good Deal
