Wonder if it could have been a two piece button since its concave in the middle?

I guess that is a possibility but the house was burned down at the end of the Rev War and left in ruins.

I tend to agree with CoilyGirl odds are a 2 piece button with the front missing.

Yes, two piece and probably predates the Rev War, but could still be around.

Pretty low but I have seen some early British military buttons made in a fairly similar way. It's a pretty common button type dating somewhere in the early to mid. 1700s. If you're familiar with the blowhole type buttons I believe what you have would have looked much the same, with the exception of the hole.
