Decided to leave work early & get a short 3.5 hour session in. As it was a small window my plan was to do a low yield area that had 2 small hotspots & cover them in 1 go. I didn't want to have to return to this field as we have plenty better ones lined up. My hope was that we may get a hammered or Roman Silver as it's a field we haven't hit hard. However, we have only ever had 2 Roman Silver & 3 hammered in total from this field, so it was a long shot.
My plan worked out, & it seems to fit this years pattern of hardly putting a foot wrong.:metaldetector::laughing7:

8 Scrappies
17th C leather mount
4 Roman Fibula (some bits of)
Roman Circular Brooch
Bit of a Roman Ring
Bit of a Roman Bracelet
Roman Military Cavalry Mount
Roman Silver (slightly debased) of Sev Alex.
Complete 6th C Saxon Brooch (best I've had in awhile, & our first Saxon item from this field)8-)

Good going like every hunt this year for you! I would fall right over with a complete 6thC. brooch...
Looks like the cavalry mount (our name is based on their shape...:laughing7:) is mass production as ours here look like exactly the same.

The name is the same here.
We have had a few but this one is at the larger end of the scale. Most we get are a little smaller.

Well done! :notworthy:

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

your Roman finds are fascinating

Congratulations, Crusader, on the great finds. Looks like you are doing better than the rest of the world this year! Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on the silver and the brooch. It still has some enamelling (red) on it. Is that gold enamel around the centre of it? Either way well found.:icon_thumright:

I think you talking about the Roman circular plate brooch which was enameled & gold plated at one point. (you maybe thinking of the similar chip carved saxon button brooches) The Saxon brooch is far left.

Very nice finds!

That brooch would've made my year. I think this could be a brooch but I've not seen anything like this before. I'd appreciate your insights.

Maybe some writing around the edge but not sure...20201010_170925.jpg

Its a 20th C half penny or other coin cut into a pendant.

Well done as usual Crusader! I have learned a lot by reading your posts over the years. I am a huge fan of the Thames mudlarking channels on youtube also.

If work didn't get in the way, I would like to spend more time on the Thames.
