Don't know much about either of your detectors. With winter upon us, the best place to look for gold right now would be in the deserts. Use all metal mode and cover lots of territory. Avoid the state and national parks, and any claims. Tell folks who ask that you're trying to find the wedding band of a friend, he lost it when hiking. (that's the old standby statement I use, it avoids the claim-jumping accusation and the relic hunting accusation that parks might try to lay on ya.) Good luck.

Yeah, I just left Okinawa and landed in the Ventura area of California. The pickings are slim here. Schools, parks, beaches. Not like the UXO aka live ordnance I found on Oki. I be headed to Alaska in March.

I can agree about California being slim pickings in the North.

I drove highway 49 to gold country and was amazed at all the fenced off areas or signs forbidding any sort of treasure or relic hunting.

Minelab GT great for rivers land and beach goes deep.
