Where did this thing come from?? says royal stainless on back of it. Does the commonwealth of mass issue eating utensils to its emplyees? Spoon is just another one eyeballed in an old field, its just vintage

I was a cop for 20+ years and visited the prison many times. Also worked in the City jail a time or two. Sorry, never was a permanent guest! Monty

Back in those days (the days of flatware in prison) they might have worked the prisoners in that field. They still do that in some states. The rest of the states need to start!!! Whatever happened to paying a debt to society? Nowdays convicts just sit around watching free cable TV, reading the free newspaper. They are also going to the free doctor twice a week (where they get free prescription medications), and going to the free dentist about once a month. Other activities include: working out, planning their next crime, and practicing with other inmates how to take out a cop!!! And don't forget the three free meals, with a desert!!! All on our tax dollar!!! Solitary confinement or HARD labor. I'm sure Jake can point them at rock piles that need to be reduced in size!!! Only two other things gripe me as much as the Federal Hilton... 1. Alimony - You wanted equal rights in the sixties, you got 'em! Now, get an equal job and make equal money and quit taking your ex-husbands money!!! 2. Illegal Aliens - Mexico is one of the richest countries on the western hemisphere. Only 1/2 of 1% control 99.5% of all the money in Mexico. Sounds like someone needs a little civil war to smooth out the pay scale a bit! Yet they keep pouring in the US and then go on welfare because they qualify. Working under the table = no income on paper. Once again on our HARD EARNED TAX DOLLAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

very good points, why should we pay money for criminals to live, i mean TV?? why? Do they really need the newspaper or dessert? I dont even think they should have the honor of using the spoon i found Maybe they did used to work the field, but this spoon seems kinda new, like no older than 30 years.

30 years could be feasible... work details from prisons are typically low risk prisoners, and stainless steel spoons and forks aren't usually a big risk with those guys. It would make more sense to use them on the work details than inside the prison. And yes, the mothers of america wrote to their congressman and made sure that their baby could watch cable TV (local statons are good enough!) and read the paper and get dessert. Too bad the rest of us lack the motivation to write to the congressman for the good taxpayers of America!

We rarely ever lost any flatware. We had to count it when it was put out and count it again when the meal was over. If one piece was missing we had to shake down the jail. The SOBs made weapons out of them by sharpening the handles of the utensils on the concrete floor! If one was missing and we tossed the jail, the guilty party usually was paid a visit from some of the other inmates for causing them grief. Justice does prevail among thieves sometimes. Monty

State Hospital silverware. My mom's worked at worcester state for over 20 years and has an almost complete set of it. I think she's even still got a few sets of twin size sheets that say Comm. of Mass. They actually still use them, too.

only ones i can think of out that way even remotely were leominster and rutland though.. neither of which are extremely close.

i would have to agree with miss_anthrope on being from a state hospital.(or ANY other state run hospt.goverment,etc.)being from a commowealth state(pennsylvania)and having worked in a state hospt.(soldiers&sailors home in erie,pa.)silverware was marked comm.of pa./state of pa.as far as other reply's i didnt know this was a"soapbox"type of fourm...i thought it was for knowledge,not personal gripes.i WAS in PRISON,if you had a t.v.you BOUGHT IT!!!,yes there was cable,state cable! NO H.B.O. or anything like that,mostly local&state shows.there is nothing cozy about loosing your freedom,YES if you commit a crime DO YOUR TIME!& yes there is people in prison that make weapons,etc.they belong there!!! if your a prison gaurd you know the dangers of the job...not saying anybody deserves to be hurt/killed,etc.but thats part of the job you chose.there are prison gaurds who INTENTIONALLY taunt inmates.i'm goingon way too much...taxpayers pay for inmates,but do you notice it?PA.prisons are self-supporting,it's called PENN-COR industrys.YES those are state issued flatware...THANK'S for listening to me ramble,it will be the last TIME,im here for KNOWLEDGE,not POLITIC'S!!!

a little off topic here but anyone wanting to see how all prisoners should be treated, instead of them living the life of leisure at our expense, take a ride to the great state of alabama, where you can see your tax dollars at work in striped suits, chains and all on the side of the roads in the ditch just like in the old days, men and women alike............if they don't get a life sentance, stripe em, chain em, and work the h&!! out of them....if they get life, that means life, take them right out back of the courthouse and put a hot peice of lead into their skull....this would cure many crackheads, rapists, theives, and other such garbage in due time....alot quicker than slapping them on the wrist like most get these days........ya'll want me for president ?..........gldhntr

it seems that this is a FOURM/SOAPBOX for political debate,so i'll break away from my earlier statement and comment again... YES we should take a look at our taxpayers at work like those Chicago,il. prison gaurds who helped 8 prisoners to escape!are they not payed by tax dollar's? or all the police that are arrested for crime's,maybe these kind of criminals,the one's sworn to uphold the law should taken out back of the court house(although i would NOT CONDONE that action).(hey nice hunting skills on our V.P.)instead of always getting away with a slap on the hand,or god forbid they go to jail because they WILL be put in protective custody because it is KNOWN they are scum. but are not treated as such,unless of course they flip on other cop's then they will be treated as such.cant we just agree that we are all human&wanted to be treated as such?(chain gangs,primitive but nothing wrong with it!hopefully the person expericing that will learn from that&staighten up!if not that place will always be there.)treat people they way you would like to be treated,hey obviously there is IGNORANCE in every walk of life,remember we are a product of our own society.oh i was in prison long enough to get my b.s. in political science,yes the state paid for it...but now i'm paying back!
