Haven't seen anything about this posted yet. Don't know what effect it will have in the future. I read somewhere that maybe a rumor of this coming margin increase got out this past week and led to or contributed to the sell-off--no way to know if that is true or not. The official news release was after the market closed yesterday (Friday).

It's only paper Jim and quite a few of those folks will start demanding physical and boy will my stash be worth something. I also think CME see the writing on the wall hence the hike. What do you think? Charlie

I think in time there will be a break of the physical prices from the paper prices. But for now, it appears to me the paper price will still control the physical to a large extent. Don't give too much credit to the average person with respect to having a clue about PMs. Not that it is their fault, society and the media in general portray it as an "ancient relic" and bad investment, and they push those really great investments like stocks (how are those bank stocks doing lately?) and such. Stocks might have been better than PMs in the past but everything cycles, and right now I don't think they can approach the success of PMs unless one is an astute stock picker and can find the true gems. Some pundits say, and I agree, that in the future the dow ave and one ounce of gold will be the same number, whether that is 3000, 5000 or whatever I would not be shocked to see that.

I really don't know what or who to believe with respect to many of the theories that are put forth by some of the well known silver pundits. I used to believe everything they all said but over time I have become more "agnostic" with respect to some of the theories being floated around. They were saying how the Comex would default about 6 or so months back and it didn't happen. Maybe it will in the future, but who knows?

As far as the physical prices go, it is going to take much more investment $$$$$ going into physical to really cause the price to break away from paper. That will happen some day sooner or later if/when the really big money investors/institutions and everyday folks feel that our current monetary system is going to fail. I don't see that happening in the near term but you never know what could happen.

There is talk online now that the Euro may actually be gone in the not so distant future. If that were to happen I feel it would cause the US dollar to rally big time, but it would not take too long for everyone to see our dollar is not really any better off than any other currency in my opinion.

I believe that if the stock market continues to tank there will be a new/different type of QE 3 that will act as a temporary life support system for our markets/banking financial institutions. But someday we are all going to have to "pay the piper" so to speak and there is absolutely no way I can see that debt being paid off. I have yet to see any politician put forth any plan (other than Ron Paul perhaps) that can save the dollar/US financial system long term by paying off all that gov debt.

I think if the dollar does crash a new currency will need to be created (perhaps a global currency to replace the ailing Euro and dollar), and to make it seem more attractive it will be partially backed by something, whether it be gold, silver, oil, ???. Just my guesstimate. In any event there will always be some type of government issued "currency", whether it be paper or electronic. A true barter system will never work in the world today since generally nobody on an individual level produces anything tangible that they can trade with. Plus the govs will always need a way to tax people and you need a currency system to be able to do that.

So after my long winded response, I think having physical PMs will be essential to your financial survival in the future. But I would try to diversify and not hold just one type-- silver, gold, platinum and even some palladium maybe (I don't have any of that right now) would be good I believe.
