Colorado Medallion

This is a real interesting piece. I discovered that it was made by the "Whitehead & Hoag Co." in Newark, NJ. The company began in 1892 and closed it's doors in 1952. I think that it has to do with the NAtional Western Stock Show. The date in the upper right area I believe is 1906, which is the year that the show started. Anyone have any thoughts?
