Hiya. I found this artifact while exploring the back yard of my aunts house in Colorado. She lives about ten/fifteen miles south of Durango, fairly close to the four corners. I have done some research online but have yet to find the information I seek.

There is what looks like some stains on the front of the artifact, as if someone scraped it with a red rock. They are mostly visible on one side, but there is a tiny (too tiny to be visible in photo) mark on the back that is of the same color. I think it is made out of jasper but I'm unsure; it is very shiny when light is present. I was wondering if these stains had any significance, what the artifact itself is, how rare it is, what it's made out of -- really any information.

Also, I have seen on the internet "hafted scrapers" which I thought resembled this, but I'm unsure how this could of been made from a broken arrowhead due to the shape of the head.

Get some better pics in bright daylight and post this in the artifacts forum. Those guys will be more help. Looks like a multipurpose tool to me. The notches were probably used as a spokeshave for making arrow shafts. nice find.
