Hello, I have dug several old buttons.shiny metal tombacs, rotted out pewter, many copper or brass type flat ones, in an assortment of sizes. recently i dug two curved ones. they are us quarter size kinda half rounds in a copper/brass alloy. Im assuming the curved ones post date the flats. Does anyone know , or know of a data bank or site that can help me identify them? Thanks, happy Hunting. chuck

I would post some pictures of your finds in the What Is It forum. There are many people here who know buttons and can also refer you to great sources.

I agree with Coilygirl. They can help you identify most anything in there. Have fun !

Greetings! Flat or coin buttons were widely used in the 18th and 19th century. They could be either flat or curved, and came in numerous sizes. One key element to look for is to look for a backmark. If there is writing on the back of the button, it is most likely 19th century. Put up some pics if you can.

Not knowledgable in that area, but that is a great avatar!!!! Put a big ol smile on my face, remember the "Ghost and MR CHICKEN" starring don notts?? Fuuuunneeee Thanks and happy huntting

Any manufacture marks on the back of the flats? if so please tell and I will 100% give you an accurate date/century. :icon_thumright:

Several great folks on here that are very knowledgeable. I have posted many times for help with great results. Good pics and measurements a must. Makers Marks are needed if you can read them. Use something to reference size if you don't have calipers. Will be glad to get you some at my cost if it helps ( Under $20 I think )

Just checked . Caliper uses above $21.01. Calipers are a must for bullet ID as well
